Are you an experienced Controller who started their career in public accounting, still currently has an active CPA, and has extensive experience working in the entertainment and/or tech industries? A Westside startup is looking for a Controller to join their team. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for leading the annual audit, overseeing the tax process, and providing guidance to the accounting department. The Controller will also be responsible for accounting operations of subsidiary entities, including control systems, transaction-processing operations, amortization of IP, policies, and procedures. To be considered for this Controller role, one must be very technical, have great communication skills, and be able to work in a very fast-paced startup environment. What do you need for this Controller role?
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
  • 15+ years of accounting leadership experience
  • Active CPA
  • Big 4 or large public accounting firm experience
  • Must come from entertainment and/or tech
  • Public company or pre-IPO experience is great but not required at this time

What will you do in this Controller role?
  • Oversee and lead the financial operations of the organization
  • Implement and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Direct and manage the audit process, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with external audit firms to optimize audit efficiency and effectiveness
  • Drive the amortization process for intellectual property assets
  • Develop strategies to maximize the financial benefits of intellectual property assets
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards
  • Contribute to the development of financial strategies and plans aligned with organizational goals
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support key business decisions
  • Work closely with other departments, providing financial guidance, and support
  • Collaborate with legal teams to ensure compliance with with IP-related regulations

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
